The Mystery of Intuition

by Stacey Mayo, The Sentelligent Coach

I had a conversation with a new friend recently who happens to be very sensitive and intutiive . . . yes, the two go together. But she has not developed her intuitive abilities due to an internal conflict. Her particular conflict was religious.

It made me wonder how many other people think that there is something wrong or bad with developing your intuition and I posed the question on Facebook.

I got some interesting answers as to why people feel conflicted about intuition and they run the gamut. i have listed those below and I included my own thoughts as well.

Common Reasons People are Uncomfortable with Intuition in Some Way

1) You may have received messages from your religious upbringing that only saints, sages, prodigal sons, etc. can connect directly with Source/God/Higher power. Many believe this was done to maintain control and power over the peeps.

2) You may not sure what to do with the intuitive information you receive – received no training on this

3) You may have a fear of what others will think if you speak about it – afraid of being seen as weird or different

4) Many women were witches, mystics, healers in the 1800′s and were shunned and even killed for this “magical ability”. Many of us have carried that trauma forward from those times and blocked our intuitive abilities.

What is Intuition?

There are several types of intuition:

The first is one you know as a gut feeling or a hunch … when your hair stands up on your arms or you get the chills in your body or some other sign that tells you that whatever was or thought is the truth.

You may also find yourself saying something like “I know it in my bones” or “it just feels right”. Everyone experiences these kinds of intuitive hunches at times in their life.

Another type of intuition is more commonly found among those people who consider themselves “sensitive.” It is the ability to connect in with a higher source of information to get answers – be it God, your guides, the angels, the universe (world wide connection and information), the akashic records. Different people have unique abilities to tap into different sources of information for the good of those involved.

Some people have had this natural ability all their life, other have subconsciously blocked it for one of the above reasons and others may not feel any connection to this at all. It is my understanding that everyone can develop this type of intuition and connection if you so desire. It is helpful to have some training and/or release blocks due to societal, religious and historical beliefs around intuition as listed above.

I was trained formally as a Certified Intuitive Career Coach and when I do the Intuitive Career Readings for my clients, I connect with Source and also with my guides. I ask questions such as:

what did you came here to do in this lifetime

what your special gifts are and

what is blocking you from living this out?

I also study the numerology (science created by Pythagoreaus) related to your birthdate to gather general information about what you planned to do in this lifetime and about the current year in your cycle. When I meditate and connect to source energy or your guides, I ask for more personal information related just to you.

If anyone would have told me I would be doing this a couple of years ago, I would have laughed at them. But this is part of my path as I continue to evolve. it is very rewarding to open this door for people and then to support those who desire help in making it happen.

If you want to release the struggle and get on track with what you came here to do in a way that works for you, now is the time. If this resonates with you, then be willing to following your intuition Visit www.balancedliving.com/coaching/ntuition

A great example of that is Shaun White, the gold medal snowboarder. I saw an interview with him and he talked about having a big fall at the X-games before coming to the Olympics where he missed his landing and crashed and cut his face. I saw a video of it and I can tell you that fall would have devastated me. Of course, I wouldn’t be doing 360 flips in the air on skis to start with. My talents lie elsewhere. Anyway, he immediately went back up the hill and tried again. Shaun said the reason he did that was because he knew that if he waited it would mess him up mentally and he would be thinking about the bad landing and the time when he fell.

I was so inspired by that and think it is a great lesson for all of us. I always talk about learning from your mistakes, but the idea of immediately moving forward again makes a lot of sense. Because otherwise the image of the mistake forms a neural pathway in your brain and your mind replays that mistake going forward. Then you have to deal with releasing that as a block later on. But if you pick yourself up immediately, there is no time for that old image to stick, you are quickly replacing it with a new one.

I was so inspired by this and quickly applied that lesson to my life where I saw that I was getting stopped because a conversation regarding an opportunity didn’t go as I had hoped. Instead of spending any more time feeling badly about it, I went forward and engaged in another conversation to see what else was possible. It felt great to move forward that quickly and just doing it boosted my mood.

Where can you apply this lesson to your career, your business or your life?

Sometimes when I have a new idea, I jump in head first …. Sometimes I let it percolate a bit before deciding to go forward … and sometimes I dabble in it – trying a little here and a little there – seeing how people respond – does this have legs – what will happen if I do this? All of that is fine and the truth is, the idea or program or project or business never gets very far if all I do is dabble. I have proof positive of this from my own experience and I bet you do too. However, when I have really committed to things, I have often seen extraordinary results – beyond which I imagined.

Where have you been dabbling? Have you been dabbling with a business idea? With a new program or product for your business? With the idea for a book?

When I get off the dabbling stool and decide to go for it, that’s when things begin to happen. That’s when I see forward momentum. It doesn’t guarantee me success. Some products and programs and ideas have certainly worked better than others. That’s okay as long as I learn from it and keep going. It’s my opportunity to see what to do different at the next step or stage or program or business.

The fear of failure or fear of success (or some similar derivation) can keep you in dabbling mode forever if you let it.

The key to remember is that if you keep on just dabbling, you are setting yourself up for failure – your idea can never achieve much success from this place.

If you have a fear of success, then it may be time to look at and get support in doing things differently then you have done them before (or watched others who worked too hard). Success does not have to look like working to exhaustion. As a matter of fact, the more I am willing to look at doing things differently, the easier and more enjoyable success gets.

No matter how successful you are, likelihood is there is some idea you are dabbling with. What is in the way of you committing to this idea? To really going for it? To playing it out to see what is possible? To see what kind of an impact you can have if you just get out of your own way?

I encourage you to make a decision one way or another but to quit dabbling. Either decide to go for this idea in a way that is exciting and fun for you or let it go. (or if you have too many ideas to work on at once, put this idea in a folder for later).

When you make a commitment you don’t have to know all the how’s – you probably know one thing you could do right now. Maybe that one thing is to get support. Remember no man or woman is an island. Whatever that step is, take it. And keep committing to taking one step after another each day. You will be amazed at what happens.

For as long as I have been in business – 14 years now – I have seen many people who had the desire to impact people’s lives believe that it is an either/ or scenario. The limiting belief is either you do something that makes an impact OR you do something that will provide you with a good living.

For years, I have been telling people that it does not have to be one or the other. That you can have both. And my stand on that has not changed. Yes, things are changing in the world and yes the economy has been affected. But you can still do something you are passionate about and make a good living. This month will be my most profitable month ever. I don’t say that to brag. I want you to know that if this is possible for me, then it is possible for you as well. We are all in this together and can support each other in stepping into our purpose and making our dreams come true as we take responsibility for making this planet a better place to live.

Did I make some tweaks to my business to create this prosperity? Absolutely.

As things change, we must change with them. And I find that the changes I am making suit me, my lifestyle and my passions even better than before. I am making more money in less time while making more of a difference and I enjoy teaching my coaching clients how to do the same.

(BTW – if you find you have a hard time reading about other people’s success, start blessing those people who have what you want. As you begin to do that, your will draw more success into your own life)

In today’s environment, sustainability is also a part of the conversation. I am all for sustainability. As a matter of fact, my husband and I are looking at moving as we are craving being in nature more. We will either build or retro-fit a home to be self-sustaining. We have been researching what others are doing across the globe and we found a huge range of possibilities. There are people who are building beautiful homes out of all natural and/or recycled materials, along with green space for a vegetable garden and much more. On the other side of things, there are people who are building homes on tiny footprints and living with only the basics. And there are a variety of options in between for both living solo and in eco-communities.

Which is right and which is wrong? Neither.

However, what I notice is that some people approach sustainability from a place of lack or scarcity. You can just feel it in the way they speak about things. I noticed that was not what I wanted – it does not feel good to me. Like anything else, if we come from a place of abundance – in this case, abundance of air to breathe, abundance of water that can be harvested, abundance of sun that can be used for energy, abundance of re-claimed materials that can be used for building without waste – than we can have both things – sustainability in a way that is conscientious and helps to heal our planet while still living in a way that feeds our soul. What that looks like will be different to everyone.

I would be remiss if I did not talk about prosperity here as well. When I say prosperity, I don’t necessarily mean making millions of dollars and it could look like making millions of dollars. You need to decide that for yourself. For me prosperity is not about over-consuming. It is about living in a way that feeds my soul. It means having work that feeds my soul, living in a home and environment that feeds my soul, doing activities that feed my soul and surrounding myself with people that feed my soul.

What does prosperity mean to you? Take your time with this question. Forget about what all the gurus and infomercials say and really ask yourself – be curious – allow the answers to come like whispers in your ear. Ask you soul what it wants each day so that you can start to hear what is really important to you.

My point is that you can have all three – a career or business that makes an impact on the world, sustainability at home and in business and prosperity. They are not mutually exclusive but rather are all important for our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being and that of our planet.

If you want all three, then being willing to claim that for yourself and then be open to what that looks like for you…As you gain clarity, you will start to see more and more opportunities that match what you want.

So many people are looking for other streams of revenue these days. There are
lots of options for revenue streams from part-time jobs to creating your own
products and services to selling other people’s products and services.

Ideally, the stream will be in alignment with a niche you are either already
serving or desire to work with and something that you care about.
Now it doesn’t have to be. There are a million and one ways to make money,
but if you are like me, you will have more sustainable energy around a project
if you are excited about the idea.

I want to side step here and say that if you are out of work or strapped for
cash, then finding an interim source of income that is not in alignment with your
passion is perfectly acceptable and even advisable. Once you get the cash
coming in, you can re-visit other streams that are in alignment with your
passions.

I was talking to a coaching client the other day who wanted to brainstorm ideas for
passive revenue. She recently had a baby and was not able to spend as much time working with individual clients as previously. All of the ideas she had were good ones but would take time to implement.

They required either finding other people’s products to promote or creating new products and a new market. All of the ideas we discussed were doable and good ideas but would have a fairly significant amount of time to produce significant revenue.

Also the ideas she had weren’t really a match for her passion. She was
passionate about helping other writers make a living writing. Then she told me
that she had created and led a class previously that taught a certain niche how
to earn money from their writing. I was able to help her see that she had all
the materials for this class which could then be used with other writers in a
variety of niches with some simple tweaking. All she had to do was take the
material she had already written and put it into a home study format and she was ready with her product. It won’t take months to develop this product – it
may only take days. And it is in alignment with her passions. Yahoo!!. Next step
will be building her list and marketing her product to other writers

What’s hiding in your computer or closet that can be re-purposed?

Previous articles, classes, audio’s, reports and speeches are all examples of things that
can be re-purposed either as a new product and source of revenue or as a
giveaway to attract more of the clients you desire.

Perhaps you haven’t written anything, but did something that really worked for
you in the past. How can you put that into a system that other people can learn
from?

This week, take a look in your computer files or closets and see what is hiding
there that you may have forgotten about. How can you take some perfectly
good material and breathe new life into it and into your business?

Let me know what you discover.

Here are 10 of 26 proven strategies gleaned from interviews with highly successful people who have overcome obstacles to live out their dreams. Regardless of your career or industry, when applied, these success principles can shorten your learning curve and be a catalyst for your success.

These principles were excerpted from the book, “I Can?t Believe I Get Paid To Do This!” Remarkable People Reveal 26 Proven Strategies For Making Your Dreams a Reality by Stacey Mayo.

Even if you already read the book, you may want to print these out as a reminder. I personally find I cannot be reminded too many times. Each time I read the stories, I see a new way to apply something to my life or remember how important it is to keep doing it.

1) Create Wealth in Alignment With Your Passions

It is important to focus on what you are passionate about first and then find a way to make money at it. Get in touch with your heart first, otherwise, the left side of your brain will rule out perfectly good ideas without having explored them.

?Money allows us the freedom to pursue the things that are important to us. Money is not an end it itself.?
Stacy Allison, first American woman to successfully climb Mt. Everest

2) Honor Numero Uno: Design Your Life Around Your Priorities

Many people try to fit their dreams into their life and complain there are not enough hours in the day to make it happen. If you want your dream to become a reality, make it a priority. Otherwise, it will never be more than a pipedream.

3) Visualize Every Step of Your Dream and Watch the Magic Unfold

The muscle movement that helps us physically take action in our lives begins in the mind. That is why all great golfers, tennis players, basketball players, etc. visualize themselves making a shot beforehand. An experiment conducted by Alan Richardson, an Australian psychologist, found 23% performance improvement among subjects who visualized every day for 20 days. In his paper published in Research Quarterly, Richardson wrote that the most effective visualization occurs when the visualizer feels and sees what he is doing.

?I really visualized it, too, even as a child watching those programs. I could visualize myself walking up the stage, up the stairs. For me, visualizing those dreams happening was pertinent to making that happen, because I could see it. I pictured it in my head?
Mary Youngblood, welfare mom turned Grammy Award Winner

4) Easy Does It: Inspired Action Always Trumps Forced Action

Inspired action is joyful action that is in alignment with your dream. It is action you want to take and the idea of it brings a smile to your face. When you take inspired action, you are aligned with what you are doing and things flow naturally.

Contrast this to action that you are forcing yourself to take regardless of whether you feel like doing it. Maybe you are in a bad mood or have a headache but decide you have to take this action and keep trudging forward. The likelihood is that if you take action from this place it will take you twice as long to accomplish your task or goal or there will be obstacles that come up along the way. It?s like swimming against strong currents.

5) Laser in On One Idea, Business or Income Stream at a Time

One of the mistakes people make is diversifying too quickly. This is true whether you are trying to build multiple streams of income or are just working on several different ideas at one time. The key is getting the first stream or idea up and running, producing good revenue, and having systems in place so it will keep running without you before going on to the next unrelated stream.

?Several things going on at one time is a distraction to cash.?
Loral Langemeier, single mom, financial literacy coach and millionaire
